We are pleased to announce a new programme of FREE courses for men at Masjid-e-Umar, delivered in partnership with Bradford College and supported by Our Girlington and GMWA.

The English (ESOL) & Confidence Building Course will take place every Monday and Tuesday from 10:00am to 12:30pm. The sessions are designed to help participants improve their English, build confidence, meet new people and develop skills that can open up new opportunities.

Our Digital Skills Classes will take place every Wednesday from 10:00am to 12:00pm, helping participants become more confident using computers, mobile phones, iPads and other digital technology for everyday life.

The programme begins on Monday 28th September 2026 and will run for 11 weeks. All courses are completely FREE and are for men only.

We particularly encourage members of our local community who would benefit from improving their English, confidence or digital skills to take advantage of this opportunity.

Our Girlington, in association with Bradford College, is delighted to offer an 11-week Cookery & Catering Skills Course exclusively for sisters at the Women’s Centre, Masjid-e-Umar.

This practical course is a fantastic opportunity for sisters to develop their cooking and catering skills, discover new recipes and explore a variety of dishes from home and around the world. Whether you already enjoy cooking or simply want to learn and improve your skills, the course is suitable for different levels of experience.

Alongside learning practical skills in the kitchen, the course provides a friendly and welcoming environment where sisters can meet others, build confidence, share ideas and enjoy learning together.

The course will run from Monday 21st September until Monday 14th December 2026, from 9:30am–12:00pm, at The Women’s Centre, Masjid-e-Umar, 150 Kensington Street, Bradford, BD8 9LP.

The full 11-week course costs £60.50 and is FREE for those receiving benefits.

A great opportunity to learn new skills, try new recipes and be part of a positive community programme.

Our Girlington, in partnership with Bradford College, is pleased to offer an 11-week Sewing Workshop exclusively for sisters at Masjid-e-Umar Women’s Centre.

Whether you are a complete beginner or already have some sewing experience, this friendly and practical course will help you develop useful skills and build confidence. Sisters will have the opportunity to learn how to make and alter clothes, cushions, bags, home items and accessories, while developing sewing skills that can be used for life.

The course will run every Thursday from 17th September to 10th December 2026, from 10am–12pm.

The full 11-week course costs **£60.50**, and is **FREE for those receiving benefits** (ID will be required upon registration).

Sew • Create • Belong

Masjid-e-Umar was delighted to welcome a delegation of young people from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who visited the Masjid as part of an opportunity to learn more about Islam, Muslims and the role of the mosque within the local community.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for open and meaningful dialogue. We spent time discussing Islamic beliefs and practices, as well as answering a wide range of questions about Muslim life, worship and the purpose of the Masjid.

An important part of the discussion focused on young people and some of the challenges they face in society today. We explored issues that affect young people from all backgrounds and communities and discussed how families, faith communities, youth organisations and wider society can play a positive role in supporting them. It was encouraging to recognise that although people may come from different faiths, cultures and backgrounds, many of the challenges facing our young people are shared.

The delegation was also given a guided tour of Masjid-e-Umar. They were shown the main prayer hall and other areas of the building and were introduced to some of the educational, religious and community activities that take place at the Masjid. The visitors were encouraged throughout the visit to ask questions, which led to some very interesting and thoughtful conversations.

Visits such as these are an important part of building bridges between communities. They allow people to meet one another, ask questions in a welcoming environment and gain a better understanding of different faiths and cultures rather than relying on assumptions or misconceptions.

At Masjid-e-Umar, we believe that our Masjid should not only be a place of prayer and Islamic education, but also a place that contributes positively to the wider community by promoting understanding, respect, dialogue and good relations.

We would like to thank our guests from Belfast, Northern Ireland, for choosing to visit Masjid-e-Umar. It was a pleasure to welcome them, listen to their thoughts and answer their questions. We hope their visit was enjoyable, informative and beneficial, and we wish them every success in the work they are doing with young people.

Masjid-e-Umar

Alhamdulillah, Our Girlington in association with Masjid-e-Umar recently completed our Smart Cookies Cookery Programme, and what an amazing few weeks it has been for our girls!

Throughout the programme, the girls enjoyed hands-on experience in the kitchen, learning how to prepare and cook a wonderful variety of dishes, including homemade pizzas, noodles, soups, fruit crumbles and other delicious recipes.

The programme was about much more than simply learning to cook. The girls developed important skills including confidence, independence, teamwork, kitchen safety, food preparation and healthy eating – valuable life skills that, InshaAllah, they can carry with them into the future.

An important part of the programme was also learning about the Sunnah of eating and living healthily. The girls were introduced to Sunnah foods and the eating habits and guidance of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, including the importance of moderation, gratitude and looking after our health.

Most importantly, the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, creativity and confidence grow as the weeks progressed – and the finished dishes looked fantastic!

Alhamdulillah, by the grace of the Almighty, one of our students has completed his memorisation of the Holy Qur’an.

Masjid-E-Umar and The Paradise Academy are delighted to announce the **Hifdh Completion of Hafiz Ishaq Rashid, son of Assam Rashid**.

Completing the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an is a truly special achievement and the result of many years of dedication, sacrifice and perseverance. It is also a moment of great happiness for his parents, family and teachers who have supported and encouraged him throughout this blessed journey.

To mark this wonderful occasion, we will be holding a special **Hifdh Completion Ceremony**, and we warmly invite brothers from our community to join us in celebrating this important milestone.

Ṣalāt al-Kusūf – Solar Eclipse Prayer

In shā’ Allāh, a **solar eclipse will take place on Wednesday 12th August 2026**, beginning at approximately **6:13pm and ending at 8:03pm**.

**Ṣalāt al-Kusūf (Solar Eclipse Prayer) will be performed at Masjid-e-Umar at 6:30pm.**

**Venue:** Masjid-e-Umar, 184 Durham Road, Bradford, BD8 9HU.

The sun and moon are amongst the great signs of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that when we witness an eclipse, we should turn towards Allah through **Ṣalāh, duʿā, dhikr, istighfār, tawbah and charity.

We encourage everyone to spend the period of the eclipse, **6:13pm–8:03pm**, in worship and remembrance of Allah as much as possible.

Womenfolk who are at home are also encouraged to perform the two rakʿahs of Ṣalāt al-Kusūf individually at home and spend this time in duā, dhikr and seeking Allah’s forgiveness.

May Allah ﷻ enable us to recognise His signs, turn sincerely towards Him and grant us His forgiveness and mercy. Please see attached poster for further details.
